I don’t blame anyone who has had more than enough of treacly retrospectives on the life of Queen Elizabeth II. In marked contrast with Her Majesty’s personal style, excess is endemic in a media environment that seem to only have two settings: “ignore” and “firehose.”
We all get Prince Louis now.
But as I noted earlier, I feel the loss of the Queen personally, as do many other Canadians, along with countless Brits, Australians, Jamaicans, and others in the Commonwealth and around the world. So I want to post this one little tribute.
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I have always posted photos of Her Majesty. Sometimes I did it just because she was the Queen, dammit. More often, I posted them as proxies for the angry political rants I wanted to post but knew I shouldn’t. For me, the Queen has always been a reminder to be a little more restrained, a little more disciplined, a little more civil, and every time I managed to tweet Her Majesty instead of whatever ephemeral irritant was bothering me at the moment, it felt like a victory for the angel on my right shoulder over the devil on my left. I wish more Twitter users would give something like that a try.
In any event, I have quite a file of photos of the Queen. So I thought I’d post a few of my favourites.
God bless my Queen.
I had never thought of posting a photo of Her Majesty for that reason but I love it.
Thanks for these, Dan. ❤️
