Speaking of failing to imagine, I found this the other day in my pile of printed articles

I tweeted about the issue a few times over the years but rarely do people seem interested. This is despite the fact that as a civilization we are building out the “internet of things” and planning to “electrify everything”. Maybe they see it as akin to cranks going on about chemtrails.

Get The Basics Right: Excellent, thoughtful and thought-provoking article. Seems it applies to the Truckers' convoy and recent news of foreign influence in Canadian information sources and elections.

One reason the FBI was ill-prepared for Jan. 6, 2021 is that it is reluctant to get involved in political disputes. Cracking down on right-wingers before Jan. 6 would have drawn bitter complaints from Donald Trump and Republican members of Congress. Even now, Republicans are threatening to defund the FBI because of its so-called liberal bias against Trump, letting Hillary Clinton off the hook, being part of a "deep state" and other nonsense charges. At the same time, Hillary supporters can't forgive James Comey and the FBI for loudly declaring weeks before the 2016 election that her email behavior was under investigation, only to quietly dismisss the charges days before the election after many had voted. The FBI is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

I’d like to add that white nationalist nutter militias had been rehearsing J6 at state capitols for a year or more in protest of pandemic public safety measures. It apparently never occurred to the FBI that building such “muscle memory” might lead to a repeat at the national capitol. Talk about a “failure of imagination!”

How about one well-known precedent of ignoring the basics: the Titanic. The latter was considered "unsinkable." Despite many warnings, its captain sailed directly toward the icebergs. Never mind that the White Star line had already made many other mistakes, such as neglecting to equip the crow's nest with binoculars.
