Israel is creating more terrorists than it is killing. You cannot beat an idea with bombs. Israel may win the war, but it will lose the peace.

Thank you for the Morgenthau Plan reference. It sounds a lot like Israel's strategy in Gaza from about 2006 as it doubled down on strangling the enclave.

Fortunately for the US & Israel, and unfortunately for humanity, "international law" is not consistently adhered to. So the question of whether this defence is legal (or that it qualifies as a defence at all) is pretty moot. I just know it will not age well, as the sting of Oct 7 fades and the wider view of history comes into focus.

I cannot discard the scenario that knowing about the preparations by Hamas (I can’t believe that no one observed the training etc., and that no one knew about Hamas’ diversion of material destined to improve life in Gaza) Bibi decided to give the instructions “let them try” --> assuming to get legitimacy for a thunderous destruction of Hamas once and for all. I wait for the evidence of reports that there was knowledge of an imminent Hamas attack, and there were some serious miscalculations. My trust is shaken 😥.

Sort of Isreali insanity of continuing to do the ame thing and expecting different results. Or are they? While the war in Gaza was going on settlers on the West Bank were helping themselves to more Palestinian land. Never waste a crisis, which brings around to suspicion the Bibi allowed the attack as a political ploy that might keep him out of prison. Not impossible is the worst you can say about the idea.

The luxury of hindsight needs to be balanced by the very real threats of the present.
