I was honestly disappointed in the Englischer Garten. I mean, it's fine and it's better than a million cities that don't have anything like it. But I definitely rate it lower than similar public spaces in London, Paris, and New York.

Geeze, really? I love it. Much more interesting than Central Park. And did I mention the beer gardens?

I did enjoy the beer garden. It might be that my expectations were very high, as I generally check out big parks everywhere I go and they are for me a highlight of every trip. It might be that I didn't find a lot to take photos of, which gets into questions of how things are laid out. Like the Englisher Garten is meant to be natural, not sculpted, but I was more recently in what was termed a botanical reserve outside Bordeaux (not a botanical garden) and I liked it more aesthetically, though it was not a high traffic area where people go to exercise and picnic.
